Dora Azcarraga-Torres
Position title: Undergraduate Research Assistant
Dora Azcarraga-Torres is a junior at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, majoring in Neurobiology and pursuing a Global Health Certificate. Since the pandemic, she has volunteered in her hometown of Milwaukee, helping bridge the gap between healthcare resources and underserved families at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Hospital. She previously conducted research in the Department of Genetics, where she examined the functions of the midbody remnant during the cell cycle and explored its roles in cancer progression and neurodevelopmental disorders.
In addition to her academic and research pursuits, Dora mentors 20 incoming first-year students each year through a program supporting individuals from low-resource and marginalized communities, a role she has held for the past two years. She is also a proud member of the Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO), which supports first-generation and underrepresented students in higher education.
Outside the lab, Dora enjoys cooking, spending time with her sisters, and traveling to new places.
