Diana Garcia is a first-generation Mexican American. She grew up in South Central Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with her Bachelor’s of Science in Human Development, and Family Studies and minors in Chicanx/Latinx Studies and Global Health in May 2023. This December, she will be finishing her Biology B.S. Diana aspires to become a family and internal medicine physician and to work with Spanish-speaking immigrant communities. Diana hopes to use her bilingualism and bicultural upbringing to serve her Latinx community with care effectively.
Diana is currently working on the Utilization of Alzheimer’s Disease Services Projects. Her position allows her to dive into the barriers to access medical care for the Latinx community. Her interest in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias relates to finding ways in which an accurate diagnosis of the disease can be made faster or early in a person’s life. Her research will allow her to identify ways in which the Latinx community can seek and access the resources needed to achieve better health outcomes in relation to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) diagnosis.
Diana is committed to increasing diversity in medicine and is an active member of the Latinx community in Madison, WI. She serves as a volunteer translator at the Specialty Care and Free Clinic, helps coordinate and plan events with the Medical Organization for Latino Advancement – Wisconsin, and mentors 1st and 2nd-year undergraduate pre-health students at UW. In her spare time, Diana enjoys going on hikes, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
